Our Model
Each of our surgical care center sites is anchored by GSI, in collaboration with an academic medical institution and an operational funding partner.
GSI provides the build and operate playbook - centrally facilitating governance, tax, and legal processes. Local communities and talent act as drivers to our work, enabled by global partnerships.
This approach ensures that we leverage partners' comparative advantage to deliver value where it is needed the most, without duplicating efforts or resources.
How it Works

Local Capacity Building, Training and Education
We collaborate with global academic medical centers to build local capacity that ensures knowledge and skills are retained within communities and avoid brain drain. In this way, we address gaps in surgical care expertise and ensure surgical care delivery over the long-term.
Fit-for-Purpose Healthcare Infrastructure
We design and build environmentally-resilient healthcare infrastructure responsive to local climate using materials, construction techniques, and labour available in the community.

Renewable Energy-Powered Surgical Care
We leverage renewable energy to overcome unavailable, or unreliable, power supply. Solar energy and collected rainwater allow our surgical care centers to run autonomously even when located off-grid.
Data-Driven, Technology-Enabled Systems
We collect, analyze, and utilize data to measure and improve our clinical care outcomes, quantify social and environmental benefits, and develop evidence-based surgical care solutions, responsive to local populations and contexts.

Auditable Impact Enabled by Global Health Credits

TM
We provide transparency and accountability to operational funding partners by enabling and issuing Global Health Credits and Global Surgery Credits. These credits represent social, health, and environmental additive co-benefits validated following an evidence-based valuation methodology. This approach can be translated into auditable certificates of trust which finance our surgical care centers' operational and maintenance costs. Where possible, we bundle the benefits generated by public and private healthcare facilities in a given jurisdiction.
