Our Surgical Care Centers
Our centers of excellence in surgical care, training, and research are locally-led and staffed, responding to community-based needs and drawing on in-country expertise.
We use local materials, construction techniques, and labour to build our centers, which rely exclusively on renewable energy, including solar power and collected rainwater.
Dedicated to quality outcomes and clinical improvement, systematically collected data drives all our centers' surgical care processes and decision-making. Each year, we target the successful completion of approximately 2,000 surgical care procedures per site.
Kyabirwa Surgical Center
Established in 2019, GSI's flagship surgical care center is located in Kyabirwa-Bujagali, rural eastern Uganda. It offers a wide range of quality outpatient surgical, laboratory, and radiology services and is a national and regional center of excellence for surgical training and education, exclusively employing local talent.
Fully powered by off-grid renewable energy, the Center harvests solar power and rainwater, and operates its own waste management system. In partnership with Mount Sinai Health System (USA), the Center carries out cutting edge surgical care research and technology-enabled capacity building through teleproctoring.
