Teleproctoring and Digital Communities of Practice
Leveraging the power of digital connectivity and mixed reality technology, local surgical care professionals benefit from remote telementoring, including telesurgery, teleradiology, and telepathology. Through our ongoing collaboration with Mount Sinai Health System (USA), physician in-kind time facilitates teleproctoring of surgical cases as needed. GSI has initiated its collaboration with Proximie to support global digital communities of practice, effectively connecting surgeons globally across resource contexts.
Simulation Center
In 2024, GSI launched the first and only laparoscopic Simulation Center set to revolutionize locally-based medical training and education across Uganda and East Africa. This state-of-the-art facility serves as a dynamic training platform for medical students, public and private sector surgeons, nurses, and other surgical care staff, offering skills building, in laparoscopic, endoscopic, gynecological surgery, anesthesia, and nursing through a range of accredited training programs. To date, GSI has trained over 60 medical professionals and students across, and beyond, Uganda.
Continuing Medical Education and Accreditation
Our flagship surgical care center, Kyabirwa Surgical Center, has become a national and regional trailblazer in continuing medical education and on-site surgical care training. Continuing medical education sessions are held weekly, facilitated by both internal and external faculty. A recent satisfaction survey revealed a 88% satisfaction level attributable to GSI's continuous staff training.
Medical staff at GSI surgical care centers undergo rigorous training and up-skilling throughout the year, to enhance specific skills and ensure general professional conduct. All medical staff adhere to national and global continuing education requirements and GSI training and education guidelines.
